Status: offline 		The popular shot size energy drink "5 Hour Energy" has been advertising quite a bit on television as of late as a "healthy alternative" to other energy drinks and that it does not contain Guarana. So I did some research and while it is true that the product doesn't contain Guarana it does contain an ingredient that we as health conscious consumers should be even more concerned about and that is Sodium Benzoate as a preservative. Beverages that combine benzoate salts (listed as sodium benzoate or potassium benzoate) with vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can set the stage for benzene formation. Many soft drinks were recently pulled from shelves by their manufacturers due to containing sodium benzoate and the dangers related to that ingredient. So be careful and choose wisely.

Status: offline 		wow... thats really good to know. I actually know a few people who take that 5 hour energy shot everyday! They say its wonderful but knowing how potentially harmful the ingredients can be, this is certianlly a deterant.

Status: offline 		My name is Neil and I'm new on this site. Lately, I have been drinking standard energy drinks for the quick pick me up and was going to try this "5 Hour Energy" alternative because of the so called healthier advantages. Thank you for the research and knowledge. I will look further into it before I dive into it.
