I'm 6'2'', 140lbs...please give advise - 3/30/2007 2:13:00 AM

I am 29 yrs old and I am yes.... 6'2'' and 140 lbs. I have been for as long as I can remember my doctor told me to enjoy it and my metabolism will slow eventually. Thats not good enough. I have struggled in my personal life for along time with coments. I refuse to take pictures because of how thin I am. I am a father of 2 little ones so my time is very limited for the gym. I work from 10pm until 6am 6 days a week and honestly only get about 4-5 hrs of sleep during the week. When the wife is home on weekends I try to catch up.
I eat a full breakfast every morning when I get home from work(usually 6-8 pancakes) then I drink a shake and try to go to sleep. The shake is a weight gainer with 1100 calories & 45 grams of protein. I really dont eat again until dinner. I know that I need to eat more but thats easier said than done. I usually eat chicken or beef for dinner and again follow that up with a shake. I snack very very little during the other times. Honestly I dont know what exactly I should be snacking on. I have been drinking the shakes consistantly for about 3 mo. and I've gained about 5-7 lbs. Its very discouraging. I also drink alot of energy drinks. mainly red bulls. because Im so tired all the time.

My body has secretly become a hugh issue in my mind and it makes me sick. I cant seem to gain much at all. I work at a computer all night so I'm not burning too much calories (I think Im not). I really am lost. I know I shouldnt let it bother me to much but it does, Its getting worse! Its hard for me to sit still too. I dont know if that make a difference or not.

I have contimplated a growth hormone or steroids but honestly they worry me, so its out of the question. I want to stay safe. I am starting in the police academy in about 2 mo and I am borderline about to be let go because of being under weight. That would add to my misery.
Please help with any advise or ideas on foods or snacks to help turn this around. I am running out of hope here.

Thank You, Scott

Every morning run by the grocery store and by a gallon of 2% chocolate milk and 3 packs of beef jerky. Devour it all before dinner. Might not be the healthiest thing over all, but it will get you gaining muscle and a little bit of fat, provided you work out. That's how I ate in my teens, and I ended up a 6'3" 210lb lean guy by the time I was 16.

4-5 hours of sleep a WEEK?!?! You have got to be kidding me. That's your main problem there. You really need to start finding more time to get some shut eye

after 10 years of "lifting" on and off, staying active with sports, I could never get over 170 (6'0)

I would get stronger, never bigger. Last year I have learned SO MUCH.

I always overtrained. Working out way more than I ate and rested.

To gain:1 Intensity 2 Eat a lot 3 rest

1 Lift heavy weight with compund lifts. I've been doing 5 sets of 5 reps on larger lifts: Squats, Deadlifts, Bench, Pullups, Power Clean and Press, Dips. Only 2 exersices a workout like those. Then 2 more exercises of 2 sets of 8 reps with other ones.

2 Eat 6 regular meals a day. Eat snacks. Protein/carb shakes before, during and after workouts. Lots of Protein, Good Carbs, and Fat. You need it all and lots of water.

3 Rest on days off and 8+ hours of sleep. Everytime you are active (sports or running or lifting) you burn calories you must eat to replace and rob your muscles from growing. rest 2-3 minutes between heay lifts. you workout fast then it's more for weight loss than muscle gain.

I gained 20 lbs in a month doing this.
