In my opinion anyone who is willing to put the time, brain power, and effort into it can gain weight. I speeak from my own experiences as a 6'5 180 string bean who was able to get up to a lean 220 in about 11 months. Some people have said that they are tired of people just telling you to eat. Get over it!!! You have to eat big to get big! Many of you think you're eating enough when you really aren't. I try and eat every 2 and a half hours. I know this sounds difficult, but it can be doable if you pre-think and pre-plan your meals. For you hard gainers, don't get too caught up on trying to eat super clean. Just get your calories down. Chicken, Steak, Rice, Fish, Potatoes, Steamed Vegatables, Fruit, Nuts, Whole Milk, Pasta, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal, these are all your friends. You can find numerouse calorie counters on the web that you can input what you have eaten for the day. They will tell you how many calories you have consumed. This is a good guide untill you can estimate for yourself. One of my favorite things to do is brown up a pound of ground turkey mix it with 4 cups of brown rice in a tupperware and add a can of kidney beans. Shake that up and put it in the fridge. Then I can just dip into that several times a day with a glass of cold milk and a piece of fruit. I also like to throw in a American Bodybuilding XXL Shake. It is a pre bottled weight gain shake with over 1000 calories and 60 grams of protien. This drink is expensive to do on a regular basis but well worth it. As far as lifting goes when gaining weight, my thoughts are less is more. Stick with the large muscle groups for now and keep your reps and sets low. I never do more than 10 sets per muscle group. I try and use a weight heavy enough to reach failure around 4-7 reps. Your workouts should be very intense but very short. Get lots of sleep. Drop the cardio, and try to stay pretty inactive. Tear your muscles apart quick and efficiently and then rest and eat big. Works for me.
