Well everyone is all asking about loosing weight. Im asking about GAINING WEIGHT. The right kind of weight.

I've always ate lots and lots and lots of food. i can easily eat a full lb of chicken for lunch and not be full. I have a VERY fast metabolism.

Problem is, i can eat and eat and eat and i never seem to gain any weight. I used to eat nothing but junk food, however for the last year i eat large amounts of meat and not much else. I dont really like fruits and veggies (besides carrots , bananas and potatoes) so i dont really eat much of them.

I USED to workout 5-6 times a week for well over an hour. each day me and partner focused on 1 or 2 muscle groups. after months of this i saw very little results. Only when i started taking creatines did i gain weight (about 10 lbs in a month).

I started loosing definition when taking the creatine so i stopped. I lost most of the 10 lbs i gained while on it. Lately ive been getting lazy (lack of motivation) and dont work out nearly as much. now maybe only 2-3 times a week.

I guess my question is.. working out alone isnt good enough, i have to eat healthier to see any results?

what products can i take that are going to help gain muscle weight but no fat? at 20 im still growing and worried about side effects as well....

Hi Yikes,

Im curious as to what your current weight is and how many calories your are taking in? Are you taking any weight gainers?

I know from personal experiences that gaining weight can be very tough. My problem has alway been not finding enough time in the day to eat enough food. Another problem is that unless I eat a lot of carbs it's real tough to take in enough calories to gain weight and carbs tend to go straight to my gut.

I'm sure there is the perfect amount of supplementation that will just build lean muscle but in my past experiences I always had to bulk up and then cut before I could gain a lot of lean muscle.

Maybe someone will tell us how to gain lean muscle fast without putting on unwanted weight. This of course being done without the use of steroids or growth hormone. Not that I condone their use but I think with todays science we should be able to get big without needles.

As I have said before, "EAT! EAT! EAT!"

"Take time off cardio and small muscle group excerises."

Then HIT THE BIG MUSCLE GROUPS HARD.

1. Squats. Take them deep and do them heavy, but not so heavy you will cause injury. Squats hit more muscle groups than any other exercise. People hate them but it is the quickest way to gain new muscle mass. Your body jacks up testosterone and growth hormone to repair all the muscles you stimulated with this main stay workout.

2. Standing Military Presses. Again this is a full body workout. Work them heavy, but not to heavy that it will cause injury.

3. Dead Lifts. Everyone hates them, but they work a huge amount of muscle groups. They are a major testosterone stimulator.

Then Eat More!
Then get some sleep!

Hi Yikes,

It doesn't sound like your eatting enough calories and enough meals a day. Sure eating Protein and a whole chicken is great. But you need to do this 5- 6 times a day with your fast metabolism. Your 20 years old and should be working out 3- 5 times a week and eating every 3-4 hours putting more protein and calories into your diet. We all know it's hard to eat and make 5- 6 meals a day. So Protein Shakes are a great way to get your calories and protein in as well as Weight Gainers such as CHAMPION NUTRITION HEAVYWEIGHT 900. But again, taking all these calories is going to make you gain weight, but you must do cardio and be very motivated in working out so it turns into muscle and not fat.

Yikes,
you should try tracking all those cals you think you're eating so that you get a real number of cals in addition to a weightlifting program down. i know it seems like a lot of work but it'll help you in the long run. i was only 130 lbs at 5'6'' maybe 2 months ago after years of lifting. it wasn't until i was actually tracking what i was eating that i knew how little calories i was getting down. hope this helps

Oh please!!!

Im sorry but I DO EAT!!!! And I am so sick of everyone saying 'eat more'....I DO!!!! I'm 19 and i weigh 92 pound Im 5'4...VERY underweight! I could eat a whole fridge every 3 hours and still not gain any weight. I don't know about everyone else but Eating isn'T my problem. I have a very fast metabolism...thats it. I don't know what else to do...I guess I've just given up. I've spent enough money and supplemenst that just go through me like water..it's even MORE frustrating seeing all these products to LOOSE weight but nothing to gain it...

To repeat what I said above.

Quit doing curls and small exercises and try the big muscle grouple exercises.

4. Pull Ups. This will replace your curls and work your back at the same time.

5. Dips. This was one of Arnolds favorite moves. You can find all kinds of pictures of him doing dips with weight plates hanging from his waist.

Forget about the other smaller excercises for now and work on these.

You will see growth. It is almost impossible not to, if you do them correctly.

hi im 19 about to be 20, i weigh about 120lbs and im 5"5. i useto weight around 110ish when i first started lifting half a year ago. i work out atleast 5 times a day focusing on one body part each day. i took muscletech nitrotech and celltech but i felt they were too harsh on my stomach. with an addition i eat 3-5 times a day, meat and vegetables, all healthy food cooked by mom. i noticed i havnt exceeded my current weight in the past 2 months. i feel like i am stuck at 120.

now i take eas myloplex milshake packets, once a day which is 42 grams of protein per servering. is anyone familiar with eas mass factor?
heres a link on

EAS MYOPLEX LITE 42/PK Protein Meal Replacement

or has anyone had success with any "mass gaining supplements" that any of u hardgairners have experienced with?

thanks a bunch

-martin.

I have had a problem in the past with gaining weight. I found a great way to put on the weight and keep it on. If you want to gain weight while you are working out, you need to start reading the labels of everything you eat. You need to eat twice as much grams of protein as you weigh. In my case, I weighed about 140 lbs, i started eating at LEAST 200 grams of protein EACH DAY!!!! Within one month i put on 10 lbs. I have since, stopped that diet, but all my weight is still here. I never lost it. I would recommed eating a minimum of of 50 grams over your body weight in protein. So if you weight 95 lbs, then eat 145 grams of protein or more each day and work out at least 3 times a week!!
I have found that i can do this is 6 meals a day. Two of the meals are MRP's or Meal Replacement Powders. Myoplex is the best one to me. I like the French Vanilla. Each packet contains 42 to 45 grams of protein. So drinking two packets a day, replaces two of the 6 meals. That also gives me 84 to 90 grams of protein. I usually also snack on some peanuts or peanut butter and drink Boost Plus Energy Drinks. You can find these in any grocery store. They have about 360 calories for gaining weight and also 15 grams of protein.
Just try to eat high protein foods, Chicken, Fish, etc..
It should work for you to!!

If u have a high metabolism, you just have to let genetics take its course. Your metabolism won't stay fast forever, around the age 21-25, considering you stick to a good plan, you will gain a lot of weight and will have no problem keeping it on. Patience.

In my opinion anyone who is willing to put the time, brain power, and effort into it can gain weight. I speeak from my own experiences as a 6'5 180 string bean who was able to get up to a lean 220 in about 11 months.

Some people have said that they are tired of people just telling you to eat. Get over it!!!
You have to eat big to get big! Many of you think you're eating enough when you really aren't. I try and eat every 2 and a half hours. I know this sounds difficult, but it can be doable if you pre-think and pre-plan your meals. For you hard gainers, don't get too caught up on trying to eat super clean. Just get your calories down. Chicken, Steak, Rice, Fish, Potatoes, Steamed Vegatables, Fruit, Nuts, Whole Milk, Pasta, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal, these are all your friends. You can find numerouse calorie counters on the web that you can input what you have eaten for the day. They will tell you how many calories you have consumed. This is a good guide untill you can estimate for yourself. One of my favorite things to do is brown up a pound of ground turkey mix it with 4 cups of brown rice in a tupperware and add a can of kidney beans. Shake that up and put it in the fridge. Then I can just dip into that several times a day with a glass of cold milk and a piece of fruit. I also like to throw in a American Bodybuilding XXL Shake. It is a pre bottled weight gain shake with over 1000 calories and 60 grams of protien. This drink is expensive to do on a regular basis but well worth it.

As far as lifting goes when gaining weight, my thoughts are less is more. Stick with the large muscle groups for now and keep your reps and sets low. I never do more than 10 sets per muscle group. I try and use a weight heavy enough to reach failure around 4-7 reps. Your workouts should be very intense but very short.

Get lots of sleep. Drop the cardio, and try to stay pretty inactive. Tear your muscles apart quick and efficiently and then rest and eat big.

Works for me.

Back in 1998 I was in Air Force Boot camp! I went in 118 came out of boot 30 days later @ 136. I had my 3 squares plus 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with each meal. I was also working out alot. I am now 27 5'7" and 130LBS. I eat and eat until I get sick. I also stick to a strict workout. Cant seem to gain any weight. I want to gain but nothing works. I do have a high matabolism and no thyroid problems. I Was taking instant breakfast until recently it started going right through me. I think I may be lactose intolorant. What suppliments do work? I dont want any advertisments, I need truth. Let me know. Im willing to try anything at this point.
