Weider Crossbow Home Gym Review - 10/2/2004 3:31:11 PM

Everyone take a look at the Weider Crossbow Home Gym & Weider Platinum Crossbow Home Gym. One of the better exercise home gym equipment I've ever seen and tested. If you can't get to the gym and do Free weights all the time and just have 20- 40 min a day to work out, these home gyms do work and are nice. For the price I would say it's a great buy.

I would like to hear what others say as well. I would also like to see if anyone else can post their workout routine so I can see what they do and what works best for them.

I've been a BodyConcept.com customer for years and have always had my products delivered fast ( within 2 - 3 days to my door). I have to say, Bodyconcept.com has the best service and online business I've ever used.

I've been looking at these and notice them on BodyConcept.com, Just the other day I saw advertising on TV for the Weider Platinum Crossbow Home Gym and from what I heard is the best home gym you can buy. I think going to get one as a Christmas Present. I would like read more reveiws about the CrossBar home Gym. Can anyone help or suggest. What do people think? how does the Crossbar compare to Free weights or other home gyms.

Please let me know

Hey that's cool. I didn't even know this site sold weight machines. When did they start doing that?

I tried a Bowflex at a sporting good store, but I have not seen a Crossbow to try in comparison.

The Bowflex Ultimate is $1995 compared to $995 for the Crossbow.

It looked like the options are pretty close, so I really need to test one and see.
If all things are basically equal I would rather spend half the money.

I train with free weights, but I thought it would be fun to have something like this to try new levels without a spotter. With free weights it is hard to push your limits without getting hurt.

Has anyone here tried the Crossbow verse the Bowfex?

Be CARFULL.............I have a CrossBow for 1 year now and the motor went...........It took 8 hours to put together.........to remove the motor (which is about 50 lbs) and send it back for repair is a nighmare.

How did you get to return your motor? They sent us some parts to fix ours and my husband and I can not do it since you have to hold down this spring loaded part and there is no place to get a good grip on it so we were unsuccessful at fixing. Not sure what to do with this piece of sh....!

Weider Platinum Question - 4/17/2005 5:30:27 PM
Guest
This is not about the Crossbow, but about the Platinum. I have had mine for a few weeks and it has worked great--though no replacement for free weights. I have had one problem: the digital resistance monitor on my Platinum 600 will switch back to 10 during the middle of a set. Regardless of the weight I set initially, the monitor will read 10 after a few reps. The resistance does not change, but the readout does. Not a major problem, except when I want to change weight and do not know what the setting. Anyone else have this problem? I called ICON and did not get much help....

I have had the same problem before and it is happening again. The first time it would go back to 10 and then the motor burned up so they sent a whole new mech assenbly and a serviceman put it on.Now it will go back to 10 a soon as I start working on it.I tried unpluging it from the back of machine and mine will go back on the correct pound weight. But when I start working out again it goes back to 10.I think they are having problems with this situation and I will have to work on the machine and get parts for it.Good luck with yours.

I have tried the Crossbow vs the Bowflex. The crossbow had a much smoother motion and at least for me it provided a greater range of motion. I ended up buying a Crossbow (original not Platinum) and have enjoyed using it. I am 55 now and a former light heavy power lifter. Although not free weights, the Crossbow allows me to workout without the worry of no spotters. The leg press and leg curl attachements all work very smoothly. Very pleased with this machine.

Purchased the Platinum 600 and I love it. Mine also would drop to 10lbs or even go to 240lbs on the dislpay. I called Icon and they were hard to get a hold of but very helpful. They sent me a wiring harness, I installed it, and it hasn't failed since. I believe when they are building the machine they secure the wiring harness a little to secure.

How hard is it to assemble? I read in consumer report that it took their engineer several hours to assemble. I heard that bowflex is eaiser to assemble also.

i had my dad purchase the Crossbow for me when i was 16, it's been about two years now and i'm still loving it. i have a routine where i use the crossbow five time and week on weekdays and follow up with a cardio workout. as for putting it together, me and a friend of mine spent about 3 hours doing it, lol. not that it was hard or anything, just took our time and had alittle trouble reading the manual.

I purchased a Platinum this summer. It never worked for more than four sessions without needing repair (two wiring harnesses, one motor, an entire lower assembly, etc.). The local repair folks have lost their shirts trying to support Weider with the repairs and refuse to provide any more support to Weider on a machine they consider junk. Fortunately, I purchased from Costco and they took the machine back for a full refund. Icon was little to no hope short of setting up repairs with 2 to 4 week lead times. I expect my Bowflex next week.

I purchased a platinum crossbow about a year and a half ago. This machine has been nothing but problems. My wiring harness has been replaced 2 times, the whole console for the weight control has been replaced once. Icon fitness is more than happy to send the replacement parts out, but you have to pay to get someone out to replace them. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT. THIS MACHINE WILL WORK FOR A MONTH OR TWO AND THEN BREAK DOWN AGAIN. MINE HAS BEEN BROKE DOWN MORE THAN IT HAS BEEN USED.

I have had many problems with the Weider Platinum.... In a year and a half, I have had three service calls, and replaced both the controler, cables, and actual resistance unit....The machine is broken again, and I am trying to get Weider to come out one more time to try and fix it or replace the unit...I think it is time to go back to free weights and forget the high tech work out....The Weider machine is JUNK!!!
