Hi,

My hieght is 5'6 and my wieght is 165 lbs. Im not really fat as to being more "beefy" (strong). i have been starting a more healthier approach to lose wieght and gain muscle and here it is: everyday for breakfast would be a Whey Protien shake (powder, milk, plain yogurt, and berries) then would munch opn some lunch meat during the day, then some greens, towards the end of the day i would go to work out, after working out i would gulp down a Whey Protein shake (Powder and water). My off days of working out ( every other day) i would eat those 6 snacks and drink plenty of water and would go outside a play some basketball or football. My question to u guys is, is this the right route to lossing fat and gaining muscle?

Here is the deal man.

When I was your age I was already into bodybuilding for 2 years. I was in great shape. I didnt consume any protein shakes or bars. Creatine wasnt even around then. What I did was workout 6xs a week (covering each body part twice) and rode the stationary bike 20 minutes a day 3 xs a week. My diet consisted of a low fat diet. Being your age you realy shouldnt waste your money on supplements. You dont need to. Your metabolism is very high @ that age. Follow a low fat diet along with a consistent training program and you will see results in no time. Remember to be patient. Rome was not built in a day. When you become more experienced and your body begins to evolve due to your consistent training, then you add the protein, creatine, etc. For now, just get your training program in order and leave the supplements for the future. Trust me!

I agree and disagree.

You may not need as much may be the middle of the road answer.

The FDA recommended daily allowance for protein was determined by an average lifestyle.

They surely didn't base their tests for recommended nutritional guidelines on a room full of bodybuilders.

If you are not eating enough protein based meals, some additional whey protein could help.

Plus, whey protein absorbs into your muscles faster after a hard workout than most other types of protein.

look man if you are 17 5'6"@165 U R a perfect shape u don't need so supplement, just work your ass off, and get BIG (gain muscle)

Hi I am 32, female, 5'6 and 210lbs. Im excercising about 4 times a week. I heard that incorporationg a certain amount of protien would help me lose wieght. How much protein would i have to take on a daily bases.

One tip on your shakes would be that regular milk, (even skim), yogut (even plain), and berries are all low in fat, but sources of sugar which won't do you much good for fat-loss. When I first started working out and dieting, it took me a while to learn about hidden sugars in things. I found a lo-carb, lo-sugar milk called Carb Countdown, the brand is Hood. It is a bit pricy, but tastes awesome and does not have all those empty calories. They make yogurt too!
