Hey folks, maybe this will help. Check this forum out: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=631595&highlight=increase+appetite There's some really good information in there with some other things to try that haven't been posted here yet. I'll just quote this one by Dr. P., then leave the rest to you: quote:
well, if you have pathologically low appetite, then you possibly have some gastrointestinal problem. Maybe too low production of stomach acid or pancreatic digestive enzymes. a very strong appetite "enhancer" is a rapid lowering of blood glucose levels. You can induce this effect by drinking e.g. a lemonade and eat some cheap candy that consists to >80% of sugar. This will highten your blood glucose, as a reaction your pancreas will pump plenty of insulin in your blood stream with the net effect of rapid decline in blood sugar. At that moment (approx. 30-60 min after candy-meal) you should start feeling uncofmortable and slightly jittery and you will crave for food. Now eat! If you can not eat even then, then you might probably really have some intestinal problem and should do a check-up at your doc! In Germany it was used to apply some "pepsine-wine" to children or elderly people who lacked appetite. Best regards David It really helps to understand our internal systems and how they work when you're trying to establish a physiological change in your body. Here's my personal experience with low appetite... I'm 6'0 and used to weigh about 140. I decided I needed to do something, so I started working out and researching. Any "bulking" type of program requires you to eat a sh*tload of food, right? I was struggling because I just couldn't muscle the food down. Here's the thing though, appetite is learned. The first couple of weeks when I would drink a HUGE protein shake (probably around 32oz), I felt like I was gonna puke afterward. But after a couple weeks, it wasn't so bad. After a couple months, it was no problem. By that time, I had figured out that I needed to divide my meals into five smaller ones throughout the day (Note: Some would say this is backwards, as eating several smaller meals throughout the day supplies the body with only the calories that it can burn before turning to fat, whereas eating, say, two HUGE meals a day doesn't allow your body to use everything and much of it is stored as fat.... perfect example: sumo wrestlers, who eat only once or twice a day). Since I didn't have a "normal" appetite, I had to spread things out. I was never hungry at eating time, but I could eat without feeling stuffed, which was a very good thing. Overall, I was able to intake more calories this way. So all that to say, if you set yourself on a schedule and stick to it, your appetite will increase naturally. I weigh 200 lbs. now (with about 15% body fat) and have never touched sterroids (believe me, I like sex WAAAAAAY more than any of THIS shi*t :-) ). So I'm a personal trainer now and have recently begun taking adderall, which has severely cut down my appetite. Since my situation is kind-of abnormal now, I've been looking for some kind of supplement to naturally increase my appetite. I discovered this "Vita Salveo" stuff online like the rest of you and was hunting around looking for testimonials. I think I'll stay away from it to say the least. If you're looking for a resource to effect any sort of change in your body, check out Bodybuilding.com. It has really been my number one resource for everything from supplementation to staying current in the training field. I wish I worked for them, 'cause this is a hell of a plug, but seriously, it's worth checking out. They're not just money grubbing punks, like Vita Salveo. They have a huge number of professionals in the field who do research studies on new products and tell you if they work or not, plus they sell just about whatever you're looking for. Enjoy! Hope that helps, ya'll. :-)
